With the new Mercedes-Benz Truck Range we are able to offer you two vehicles incorporating the rich fund of experience and expertise acquired over more than 100 years of German engineering, equipped with leading Mercedes-Benz vehicle technology and components tested under the toughest conditions. This applies to engines, transmissions and drive axles as well as frames, chassis, suspension and cabs.
Everything is perfectly coordinated, in order to meet all requirements reliably, even in extreme conditions and difficult terrain. Compelling quality that is immediately apparent the first time you take to the wheel – and which will continue to deliver benefits for many years to come.
There’s no substitute for reliability.
A truck only earns money when it is up and running. As such, the prime requirement in the ever tougher transport business is for trucks that can be counted on to operate reliably. With particularly durable drive components, the new Arocs is a shining example of how this is done.
Reliable engines.
The Arocs is available with the new inline 6-cylinder engine OM 460. The engine has been developed on the basis of tried and tested technology and robust components. It does not only boast high power, but also features a reliable and durable design. It was developed for economic efficiency, maximum longevity and optimum performance. The engine features particularly robust technology with exhaust gas turbocharger and the pump-line-nozzle injector system.
Mercedes PowerShift 3.
In addition to a high level of driving comfort and ease of operation, the more advanced PowerShift 3 automated gearshift, which features as standard on board the new Arocs, ensures careful treatment of clutch lining, gearshift and engine. Shift times are up to 20% shorter than those attainable with Mercedes PowerShift, and as much as 50% shorter in comparison to the Telligent® automated gearshift. Various driving programmes provide a convincing shifting strategy appropriate to the specific driving situation and the load carried at the time. It also offers further improvement in performance due to efficient power transmission.
Clutches.
The new Arocs features a new 1- or 2-disc clutch generation incorporating overload protection with a warning system which is designed for vast levels of torque transmission up to 3000 Nm. The single plate clutch thickness has been increased by 20% in comparison with its predecessor, resulting in an increased clutch life-time.
Rear axles.
The weight-optimised drive axles on the new Arocs boasts low frictional losses and extremely smooth running. Fuel-efficient hypoid drive axles are designed for axle loads of up to 13 t, a further optimised planetary axle for axle loads of up to 16 t. Vehicle and powertrain configurations are optimally matched to meet distribution application requirements up to 33 t.
Brakes.
Depending on the type of application, for a high standard of safety we equip the trucks either with disc brakes or drum brakes. The high power of the engine brake and retarder boost the available brake power, reduce wear and improve economic efficiency.
Suspension variants.
The new Arocs always offers the suspension variant which is best suited to the given type of application – steel or steel-air.
Redefining overall economic efficiency.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks stand for particularly high economic efficiency worldwide. In addition to their reliable and durable design, the new Arocs also meets the highest standards of efficiency, based first and foremost on their particularly low fuel consumption.
Low wear and a higher resale value are additional merits contributing to their high overall economic efficiency. To this end, numerous innovative technical measures were implemented in the course of developing the new Arocs. These result in engines with higher performance and lower fuel consumption, a powertrain which enables an economical driving style, and an aerodynamic design honed down to the finest details in the interests of fuel efficiency.

The further advanced Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated gearshift combines an economical driving style with smooth gear changing and a high level of driving comfort. With even higher fuel savings compared to their already fuel-efficient predecessors, the Arocs with its new 6-cylinder in-line engine offers a particularly economical proposition.

Safety equipment.
Active safety equipment.
Mercedes-Benz employs many safety and assistance systems to reduce risks and ease the burden on the driver. Alongside the Electronic Braking System with ABS, ASR, hill holder, the Stability Control Assist system, Lane Keeping Assist and Attention Assist help the driver to avoid or mitigate accidents. Also contributing to the high level of safety are the standard LED day-time running lights, LED tail-lights and flashing hazard warning lights under emergency braking.
Passive safety equipment.
The new Arocs offers the most comprehensive active safety systems ever. However, not all accidents can be fully prevented. For this reason Mercedes-Benz Trucks provide a passive safety concept developed through rigorous crash tests. The cab has been tested according to ECE R29 and Swedish Test VVFS: 2003:29. The target of these tests is a distribution of the deformation, which results in the greatest possible clearance for the occupants. Furthermore, the driver airbag and driver seatbelt monitor are standard features on all models, enchancing driver safety.
